Jason Thompson

Managing Director and CEO

Jason's 28 years' experience in the workers’ compensation and general insurance broking market provides a unique understanding of both industries. Jason leads the team at Work Health Options (WHO) with a customer service focused attitude.

His management expertise, insurance knowledge and network of relationships contribute to the teams’ vision "to be the leading innovator and premier health solution provider in the workers compensation insurance and people risk industry".

 

Jason's initial ten years with AMP, Mercantile Mutual and QBE allowed him to work in multiple areas including credit control, underwriting and also in the capacity as Marketing Executive which included business retention and development of corporate clients, insurance agents and brokers.

Jason worked closely with clients and their agents/brokers to help manage their workers' compensation, injury management and Work Health & Safety, whilst assisting the Branch Manager on strategic goals, financial outcome measures and general management issues.

The following fifteen years Jason was involved in the establishment and development of IC Frith's National Workers’ Compensation and General Broking units, which entailed continuously improving the service offering to their portfolio of clients at both a state and national level. After assuming the role as the NSW State Manager, he was then appointed National General Manager of Broking & Workers Compensation.

Jason is a Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF). He is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).

Michelle Herkenrath

National Workers Compensation Account Manager

Michelle is a founding member of the team at Work Health Options (WHO), with over 22 years' experience in workers compensation.

In 2004, Michelle joined the IC Frith workers compensation team in its early stages of growth and was an integral part of the team throughout its development. During her time at IC Frith, Michelle advised clients in various industries, ranging from SME to large national and multinational organisations. These industries include national retail, building supplies, manufacturing, Australia's largest privately owned steel merchant, national transport/logistics and wholesaling, furniture manufacturing, electrical industry, hotel industry and flower wholesaling.

Michelle’s early experience as a Senior Case Manager for both commercial and corporate clients at Zurich and QBE provided a strong platform to succeed in her current role as National Workers Compensation Account Manager. Michelle’s in-depth national knowledge allows her to provide various services, which include:

  • Claims management/analysis
  • Return to Work Co-ordination
  • Premium negotiating nationally and limiting premium exposure
  • Adhoc advice on structure, medical networks and the like
  • Employer-training forums
  • Self-insurance and Comcare

Michelle has led the way with Work Health Options philosophy of becoming an extension of a clients' Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Work Health & Safety team. Michelle provides full claims management and is currently appointed RTW Co-ordinator for a number of national clients, involving liaising with General Practitioners, writing RTW plans, supporting injured workers and management teams.

Laura Manga

National Workers Compensation Account Manager

Laura is a founding member of the team at Work Health Options (WHO), bringing to the team over 16 years’ experience in the Workers Compensation industry.

Laura's career began as a Case Manager with QBE, which involved managing national clients at a commercial and corporate level.

Laura built relationships with brokers and their portfolios, as well as clients on a direct basis. Her technical abilities allowed her to manage both high and low risk claims as well as working with a network of medical practitioners and rehabilitation providers. Laura is also a certified Return to Work Coordinator.

To broaden her industry experience, Laura was appointed in 2006 to the QBE NSW Underwriting team, where her dedication and expertise saw her promoted to Senior Underwriter/ Client Liaison Officer in the Specialised Accounts team. In this capacity, Laura was responsible for managing and servicing all portfolios for QBE’s top listing brokers. 

Laura’s expertise and industry reputation adds value to the team at Work Health Options, bringing with her in-depth experience in the NSW workers compensation market and a strong service ethic with national clients and brokers.

Laura is responsible for providing comprehensive broking and claims management services, on a national basis, to direct clients as well as partnering weith general isnruance brokers, with responsibilities such as:-

  • Proactively managing ongoing assessment of claims
  • Liaising with all relevant third parties involved in a claim
  • Compiling claims reports for clients and/or brokers nationally
  • Claims influences on premium formula
  • Managing State and/or National programmes
  • Premium analysis / Industry classifications / Grouping classifications
  • Self-insurance and Comcare
  • 'Claims influences on premium formula

Pauline McKenzie

Operations Manager

Pauline has over 22 years’ experience in the insurance broking industry. Pauline started her career at a professional suburban brokerage, where she gained a thorough understanding of all aspects of an insurance broking operation.

Her experience and knowledge progressed her career to that of an Account Broker, during which time she provided assistance for SME and Corporate accounts for IC Frith Insurance Brokers. This entailed building relationships with clients and underwriters, ensuring adequacy of insurance coverage, marketing and placement of insurance programmes, quality assurance and general servicing of clients’ portfolios.

In 2011 Pauline increased her responsibilities and accountabilities on a national basis which involved the development, training and maintenance of the broking system including the building and designing of all brokerage documentation.  In conjunction with the General Manager, Pauline also worked extensively and was key to the designing, testing, training, maintenance and roll out of a purpose-built Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This was a national based system which took three years to build.

In 2014, whilst maintaining her responsibilities in relation to the national broking and CRM systems, Pauline was appointed Executive Assistant to the General Manager of Broking & Workers Compensation. Her duties were extended to include all facets of an assistant role to a senior executive/director, as well as providing support to all State Managers.

As a founding member of the team at Work Health Options, Pauline assumed similar accountabilities and responsibilities as our Operations Manager, extending her role to include:

  • Marketing
